What do we want our children to achieve in French?

All junior pupils are able to develop an understanding of French. They will experience this through both written and oral activities including songs, drama and retelling of traditional tales. We aim to encourage enthusiasm for other languages and cultures. We aim to prepare pupils for further education in languages by offering a basic knowledge in the subject.

Why is French important?

Teaching French in primary school helps children become confident communicators, broadens their cultural understanding, and develops valuable lifelong skills. It encourages curiosity about the wider world and prepares children for future language learning and life in a multicultural society.
