During RE, we have been learning about the Jewish festival of the Passover, or Pesach.

This year Passover begins on Friday 30th and ends on Saturday 7th April.

The Seder Meal forms an important part of the celebrations.

A variety of symbolic food is shared during this special meal which reminds Jews of their time as slaves in Egypt, the exodus and their freedom.

Below is a recipe for Charoset. This sweet apple paste is symbolic of the mortar used by Jewish slaves whilst building the pyramids for the Pharaohs of Egypt.

Charoset (Child friendly - wine and nut free)

Charoset (kid friendly and nut free)

Ingredients:

2 apples, peeled, cored, and cut into chunks
1/2 cup roasted unsalted sunflower seed cup

4 tbsp grape or pomegranate juice

2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon

  1. Place apples in food processor and pulse until chopped to your liking.
  2. Scrape into a large bowl, wipe out food processor, and add sunflower seeds.
  3. Pulse just to chop a little bit (some whole seeds are fine) and add to apples.
  4. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well.
  5. Taste and adjust any of the ingredients as you see fit.
  6. Refrigerate until ready to use, up to a few days. Charoset will taste better as it sits, so feel free to make ahead and plan for leftover.
  7. Try it with some Matzahs.
  8. Enjoy!

RE: Homework Project - Design a Catapult

Image result for shocked face emoji

Humble apologies

We seem to have got a little bit ahead of ourselves.

There should only be 2 a term, which the children have now completed.

If the children would like to make a catapult, that would be lovely.

However, there is no expectation to do so.

Many Thanks

Mrs Chudley & Miss Michael
